Anyone reading this blog should take heed. Harley theft in Japan is a big problem. Recently a friend of mine stopped the attempt from a man who was obviously up until that point good at stealing these bikes . He was found to have over a hundred keys on him at the time he was caught.
Most manufactures supply or can supply easy installation kits of alarm systems. Most Harley's it's a easy install, replace the module associated with the blinker and horn system. Takes about 15 min on most FL and FX bikes. Uses the horn on the bike, slightest movement sets it off, aside from normal weather and ground movement. I reccomend the factory install and encase the horn wire(s) in a metal mesh loom so it's not easily cut or disconnected. Plus use a alarmed disc lock. Problem with the disc lock though if batteries die and some idiot tries to move the bike without first seeing that , will cost you a disc ( bends it and causes pedal fade ) not to mention a dent in your pocket book.
Ultimately for home storage use a Motion Sensitive camera system backed up by your PC or mobile phone. X10.com is a great place to purchase such a system and easy to install. Anytime someone moves near your property the system kicks in and records plus allows you to tell the bugger to piss off !
